Greetings- My name is Mark Florence, i am known as Flo. I am a Physical Education instructor at Naperville Central HS. I just finished my 5th year at NCHS, but have been teaching for over 15 years. I spent 10 years at Neuqua Valley HS prior to making a move to NCHS. In addition to my duties as a PE teacher, I am also the Head Athletic Trainer.
I would like to apologize for not being at the first class. My wife (married 10 years this July) had hip surgery on Monday and I had to be around to help her recover, along with taking care of our 4yo daughter and 6yo son. Since writing this last..my kids are now 5 and 7... man..time flies! It will be an interesting summer, since she will be on crutches and in a hip brace for 6 weeks. I think I will watch a lot of "Mr.Mom" to get some ideas! If you don't know that movie, 1) i am old, 2) you are young, 3) you need to watch it!!
I have been a digital learning leader for NCHS the past couple years (since our school went 1:1). During the past couple years, I have had the opportunity to be part of Google training. I am level 1 certified and part of the process has been learning great features to Google suite and other technology that can be used in classrooms. I actually had a blog started, but forgot about it, until this assignment. This is through Blogger. It is very Google Friendly.
I look forward to continuing my digital learning with this course and through all of you.
Update 3/5/18
Well, my wife has healed, and is back as head of the household. Just like my Seniors, i can't wait for school to be over with. i was told by one that we are at 77 days. can't wait.
Flo,
ReplyDeleteWe missed you in class on Monday! Hope your wife is off to a great start with her recovery. I have a feeling you will be busy this summer! It appears that you have experience with blogging already. I am also a PE teacher in the district so it will be fun to bounce ideas off of each other at some point with technology in our setting. Your blog looks great! I chose to use blogger as well just because it plays so nice with all of the other google platforms. I look forward to learning more from you and this class!
Flo, I love that you teach PE and are a trainer AND a tech leader! I am happy to be on this learning journey with you!

ReplyDeleteHi Flo,
ReplyDeleteI also took on the DLL role for a year for the CTE department. I was surprised to see the role disappear so quickly. I worked with other DLL to lead a few technology sessions for the department. I think many of them would still like the extra support!

Hi Flo,
ReplyDeleteSo glad that you moved from D204 to D203 :) I hope that your wife's hip is fully recovered and that you've been able to move on from your "Mr. Mom" duties.
Flo, thanks for your help Monday and welcome! What is the latest digital activity you and your students have done this year?
ReplyDeleteHi Flo--love the nickname! I have been toying with the idea of becoming Google Certified, but haven't had the time to do it yet. Do you think it's worth doing even after taking all these classes? Does the district recognize it as professional learning?

It's great to see you in this class again! I think it's great to see you integrating tech in the PE classroom and are a digital leader. As a DLL myself, I have found that sometimes specials teachers do not feel the need to integrate technology as much, but there's so much out tech ideas out there that could make a difference in the arts as well!
ReplyDeleteHi, Flo! Cool nickname! Nequa is the school my daughter will go to in a few years. You will have to give me your honest assessment of your experience. Why did you decide to leave 204 and come to 203? I shouldn't stereotype, but I didn't expect to meet a P.E. teacher with so much technology know-how. Can't wait to see what you come up with during the next two courses!
ReplyDeleteHi Flo! Glad we are continuing on our tech journey together. You always have some very creative ways to incorporate tech with your students. Love the title of your blog and that you are a digital leader at NCHS. As a former "redskin" it is good to know that our students are in good hands! --Alison Gray
